2007年2月 Tupac Alcauter Immersed into Christ in MoreliaOn Sunday, Feb. 25, Tupac Alcauter was baptized in the city of Morelia.
Tupac works for the Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), similar to the EPA in the United States, in the Ajusco area of Tlalpan in Mexico City. He lives in the Coapa area, not far from our house. However, Tupac was born and raised in Morelia, Michoacan (about 4 hours from Mexico City). Many of his family members still live in Morelia. In fact, his sister is a member of the Iglesia de Cristo Rio de Vida (River of Life Church of Christ). After the death of his brother, Tupac began to spend more time with his family in Morelia on the weekends, including more time with his sister. This brought him in contact with the members and missionaries of the Rio de Vida Church. Some of you may remember when we met Tupac at last year's Singing Workshop. After the workshop, Tupac began to assist the cell group in Coapa as well as the Sunday worship in Miguel Hidalgo.
Over the last year, Tupac's faith has grown tremendously. Not only have we been witnesses to his faith, but we have become good friends. I have learned so much from Tupac. He has a wealth of real life experiences and is highly educated, relatively speaking. His journey to faith in Christ began years before we met him. It has been a privilege to be a part of this moment in his journey. I pray that we continue building up one another as we journey together with our Lord.

This is their annual week-long “foreign missions experience” that every AIM class goes on during the mission term of their preparation in Lubbock, Texas. On Saturday night, all of the current AIM teams participated in small groups throughout the city. Several teams came to small groups in the Miguel Hidalgo and Villa Coapa areas of Tlalpan. On Sunday, we had about 30 AIMers with us in Miguel Hidalgo during our morning worship. Then, the Tierra Firme youth group went with the AIMers to the central plaza in Coyoacán. The evening ending with an awesome youth devotional at the Pink House (the Sunset Church of Christ’s mission home) where over 100 youth sang praises to God in two languages! On Monday, the entire AIM class served in five different areas of Tlalpan. Jeni and I were blessed to be with the teams going to Scotland and Australia, plus the current AIMers in Leon, Mexico and a few folks tagging along from Paducah, Kentucky. We spent part of the day painting a hopscotch court and a Mexican game called “Stop” in our local park. In the afternoon, the AIMers participated in conversational English classes. The group was a great encouragement to us and has already opened up more doors in the area where we live, Villa Coapa. Thank you for your service, AIMers! |
